Buhari confirms ear infection, goes abroad for treatment

President Muhammadu Buhari

Less than 24 hours after the Presidency gave President Muhammadu Buhari a clean bill of health saying he ‘is hale and hearty, it made a recant last night when it confirmed his ear ailment. In fact, a statement by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said the president would take a 10-day vacation to enable him seek proper medical attention in the United Kingdom.

The latest development is coming on the heels of persistent denials by the Presidency regarding the President’s ear infection story, the last was a telephone chat by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, Femi Aedsina, on Saturday, where he debunked the media reports describing it as the figment of the writer’s imagination.

But in a twist of events, Adesina, late last night, confirmed that the President would travel to London today, June 6, 2016 for some rest.
According to the statement, “During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T. specialist for a persistent ear infection. The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.”

The sign that all may not be well with the health of the president came to public knowledge when he could not honour his official visit to Lagos state.

An online medium had announced that the president who sent the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo to represent him on his much-publicised expected visit to Lagos, was suffering from ear infection

This was later denied by the presidency, which showed a photo of the president receiving Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in his office.
Also, the president failed to honour his official visit to Cross River State and later the launch of clean-up of Ogoni land.
